Wedding and their preparations are hectic and can be overwhelming especially when there’s one in the family. The hard work that goes into making the big special for a bride and the groom is the most fun yet exhausting journey.
In these times of fun, excitement and most importantly chaos, we tend to put our health on the back burner and resort to lots of comfort eating. Now, we get it- it’s a time for celebration and Indian families link happy times with rich, unforgiving foods. So we feel compelled to let go only for those few weeks, but those few weeks change into months and years very quickly.
With the wedding season coming around, it, unfortunately, brings the pressure of wanting to look beautiful and reach their ideal body weight in a short amount of time. With that approach, people end up going for hardcore gymming, skipping meals, and crash diets to lose belly fat which leads them to an unhealthy lifestyle. Doing this compromises your health in the long term.
It is not required to compromise on fun, celebrations and also good food! It is the big fat Indian wedding season, so enjoying it is a must. But this is certainly achievable by making some minor tweaks in your daily routine and following a ‘balanced’ diet to get the best results possible. Here are some quick weight loss tips and ideas to keep in mind during this wedding season:
Colourful Diet: Having a diet with a variety of different coloured vegetables, fruits and animal-based products provide different types of macro and micronutrients to the body that act as metabolism boosters.
Stay Hydrated: Stay hydrated and drink water first thing in the morning. Try to drink at least 3 litres of water throughout the day. Brides and grooms who want glowing skin on their wedding day should keep themselves hydrated. Also, drinking water 30 minutes before a meal can help you stay full.
Plan your meal: It’s a good idea to structure your meals every 3-4 hours. This allows your body to go through its natural hunger and fullness cycles. Make sure you opt for a high-fibre diet and encourage healthy eating.
Healthy snacks: the small hunger pangs that we have between meals lead to grabbing easy snacks which are not at all good for our health. Try consuming roasted makhana and bhuna chana as better alternatives. High-protein snacks will be very useful to you.
Alcohol - since it is the time when people dance their hearts out, one should keep an eye on what they are eating and drinking. alcohol should be taken in moderation. Alcohol adds to dehydration, so please ensure that you keep your water intake in check.
Desert - the connection between marriage and sweetness is very strong. It is impossible to avoid sweets on such occasions. But, one should always remember to go for sweets only after you eat a full and nutritious meal.
The special day: a month before the marriage season, start taking in more fibre eg: beans, whole grains, green vegetables, and fruits will keep you fuller throughout the day and also will give you the energy to function.
Remember, you can have fun, enjoy great food and also stay healthy. There is no one-shoe-fits-all approach when it comes to a diet plan for weight loss, just eat healthily, stay hydrated and work out!
